We've heard from a number of users (mostly outside the US) that the v1.6 update isn't downloading correctly for them. Others are having no troubles at all. This seems to be an error with Apple's distribution servers and we've contacted them about the issue. Sorry for all the trouble, but we'll push to get it resolved as soon as possible.
***Wait, what!?!? My characters and settings are erased!***
In order to support our "Freemium" model, we've rolled back the number of free playsets that we offer with purchase. In most cases, this will not affect those of you that purchased the app (with the 10 included playsets) prior to the v1.5 release: installing over a previous build will maintain your old playsets.
We've heard that many of you experiencing errors have uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it from the store (perfectly logical). Unfortunately, this will result in your temporarily losing those 6 playsets that came with your initial purchase, BUT you can reactivate those very easily by simply opening up the Toy Store and logging into ToonTube with your old account information. All of your previous playsets will return to you automatically. As always, please feel free to email us anytime if you run into any issues. We're here to help.

Toontastic crashes on me. How do I fix it?
Please accept our sincere apologies for that, there's nothing more frustrating than a crashing app. Please make sure that your iOS is updated to the latest release and that Toontastic is updated as well (check in the App Store Updates tab). Restarting your iPad also helps.
If you're still experiencing difficulties, please let us know right away by emailing us with details on when and where in the app the crash occured. We'd also GREATLY appreciate it if you could send us your crash reports.Thank you for your support and understanding!
The screen's frozen! Help!
Toontastic is a pretty complex app and has been known to lock up from time to time. If that happens, simply press the "HOME" button on your iPad to return to the home screen then double tap the button to pull up the taskbar. Hold down on the Toontastic icon until the "-" appears and then press the "-" to close out the app. Tap the HOME button again to return to the home screen and open up Toontastic again. You should be good to go!
My audio isn't working. How do I fix it?
We just recently heard of a funny bug with a recent iOS update. If you find that your audio is muted in Toontastic, please flip the mute/orientation-lock switch (at the top of your iPad next to the volume buttons) back and forth once while inside the app. We're working on a better fix for this with future updates, but this will suffice for now. Sorry for the hassle!
How do I export video from my iPad to save on my computer or post to YouTube?
Toontastic features a built-in storytelling network called ToonTube for kids to safely upload and share cartoons with friends and family around the world. ToonTube supports Facebook, Twitter, and Embed features just like YouTube. We do not currently support video export off the device or to YouTube.
My iPad doesn't display cartoons on the ToonTube website on my iPad. What gives?
ToonTube cartoons can be viewed in-app or on our website. If you have an iPad, we highly recommend using the in-app ToonTube player. The website player (built in Flash, not supported on the iPad) is designed for kids to share their cartoons with friends and family who may not have access to an iPad.
How do I change/delete my ToonTube account in the Toontastic app?
Changing or deleting a ToonTube account is fairly easy:
- Close Toontastic by pressing the iPad's home button
- Open the iPad's Settings app
- In the left-hand scroll bar in the Settings app, find Toontastic and tap on it
- Delete the email address and password, and if you wish enter another account's details
How do I add new characters and settings?
Great question. We're happy to hear that you're looking to add more flava' to your 'Toons. There are two ways to add characters and backgrounds. The first is to stop by the in-app Toy Store to pick from one of our many playsets (with many more coming soon!). The second option is to channel your inner Picasso to make some custom characters and backgrounds in the drawing tool! We're looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
How do I get the characters to face forward while animating?
Toontastic characters are designed to face in the direction you first move. If, for example, you first move the Princess to the left with one finger, she'll face left until you pick up your finger and move her again in another direction (and vice versa for going right). To get her to face forward, make sure that your first movement is up or down. If you want to lock the Princess into her current perspective (profile or front-facing), simply move her with two fingers.
I only have two hands. How do I create a more complex animation with lots of characters?
Toontastic features what we call "iterative animation" - allowing you to layer many character animations into one scene. Once you're done recording your scene, hit the "Stop Animation" button. After playback is complete, you may add another character if you wish and then hit the "Start Animation" button again (without repositioning or adjusting your previously animated character(s). The first character animation will carry over into your second animation and the audio will re-record over your first take. This is also helpful if you want to narrate your story AFTER you animate it.
I'm a teacher and I'd like all my students to be able to upload their cartoons for the class to see without making them public to the world. Does ToonTube support this?
In a word, YES! ToonTube is first and foremost a Global Storytelling Community, but it can also serve as a private sharing space for teachers and families. Try the following:
- Create a ToonTube account for your entire class by inputting your email address into Toontastic
- You will receive an email instructing you on how to create an account -follow the link and instructions
- When setting up the account, use a password that can be shared with all your students/children
- Once your account is setup, click on the "Login" link in the top right corner of ToonTube
- Click on "Videos by USERNAME" in the top right corner
- All cartoons created with this account will appear onscreen, private until approved for public sharing
- Families and teachers may use this private space to share cartoons within select communities
I'm a teacher and I'd like to purchase toys and/or your Bonus Pack from your Toy Store but I can't do so on all 30 iPads in my classroom. How do I get additional playsets?

- Create a ToonTube account for your entire class (see above)
- Update every iPad in your classroom to v1.51 or above
- Make sure every iPad is logged into your class' ToonTube account and is connected to the internet
- Purchase a playset and/or bonus pack via the Toy Store on ONE of the iPads in your classroom
- Upon reload of the app, every iPad in your classroom should activate that playset/pack
- Yes, you read that correctly: one purchase for 30 iPads… we like teachers!
- We ask/recommend that you create one account for every classroom so that A) teachers can keep an eye on students' content and B) we can pay the electric bill :)
